About Bowen Therapy

Bowen therapy, also called Bowenwork or Bowtech, is a form of bodywork created by Thomas Ambrose Bowen (1916–1982) in Australia. It involves gently stretching the fascia — the soft tissue that covers all your muscles and organs — to promote pain relief.
Specifically, this form of therapy uses precise and gentle, rolling hand movements. These motions focus on the muscles, tendons, and ligaments, along with the fascia and skin around them. The idea is to reduce pain by stimulating the nervous system.
This type of therapy acts on the autonomic nervous system. It’s said to inhibit the sympathetic nervous system (your fight-or-flight response) and activate the parasympathetic nervous system (your rest-and-digest response).

What’s it typically used for?

Bowen therapy is used to treat a variety of ailments. Generally, it’s done to relieve pain and increase motor function. Depending on the underlying symptoms, it may be used as a complementary or alternative treatment.

The method may be used to treat the following ailments:
-
respiratory conditions, like asthma
-
gastrointestinal disorders, like irritable bowel syndrome
-
motor function

About Holly
Holly Kimber is a Bowen Therapist with a passion for encouraging people towards a more natural way of living and responding to change in their body.
Holly's journey to Bowen began when she recovered from an old hip injury in 2015. The hip pain was present from a very young age and progressed to the inability for her walk without significant pain. Within a couple of months of care, the pain had significantly decreased. Now, years later and after many Bowen treatments, she has no pain in her hips.
Holly then travelled around the world focussing on how people from all different corners of the earth find natural ways to heal and nourish their bodies. She went on to study many different facets of natural health, from 3 years of Chiropractic Science to permaculture farming, wholefoods/organic food practices, Hridaya yoga teacher training, meditation teacher training and Bowen therapy.
After spending some time living in France she returned to the Sunshine Coast and began work as a soft tissue therapists for Chiropractors. This work inspired her to start treating clients with Bowen Therapy and soft tissue massage, where the Bowen therapy will rebalance the body and the soft tissue massage will draw focus to areas of dysfunction or pain. Holly has a keen interest to continue learning different soft tissue therapy modalities that will best serve her clients.
